Diving Into 3D – My First Blender Render!

After years of toying with the idea of getting into 3D and some light experimenting in Spline, I decided it was finally time to properly dive in. I opened up Blender and followed a tutorial from PANTER, and shortly after I had my first render!

It's Time for 3D

I've wanted to get into 3D for a long time, but never felt like it was the right time. I played around with Spline a bit here and there, but reaching the limited number of free projects before having to pay for a subscription was a bit of a limiting factor. But it did give me a taste for what was possible!

I've only ever heard good things about Blender—from being free and open source to having tons of plugins to extend it's functionality. I started off by watching some tutorials on YouTube to get familiar with the interface and general concepts at play.

I ended up picking a tutorial by PANTER as my inaugural dive into Blender (you can check it out here). The vibe was "Shiny Iridescent Chrome Logo". It was a pretty simple tutorial so it was perfect for me to follow and get familiar with things. I went with a different environment texture than the sort he was was using, so my outcome was a little bit different, but I like the look!

Following along with this tutorial showed me just how much I don't know about Blender, but it also made me excited to know just how much potential there is as well. Soon I'll make the time to fit learning Blender into my schedule—I feel like it'll be the perfect addition to my skills and workflow. Being able to integrate 3D elements into my branding work and beyond will be super cool!
