A Different Trip to Gibsons
Normally, I am headed up to Gibsons about once a month to visit friends that live there. This time around, I was going up for a very different reason! My parents are in the process of moving back to Canada and I've got them interested in Gibsons, BC as a potential place to live.
I went up with my bother, sister and her boyfriend to check out a couple of properties on our parent's behalf. Instead of the usual Friday afternoon ferry I catch, I was on the earliest ferry on a Sunday morning. Giving up that sweet sweet sleep-in time was well worth it, an not just for the sake of helping my parents.
The 7:30am Ferry
Riding with BC Ferries usually means delays, particularly later in the day as setbacks can build up. Taking the earliest ferry possible from West Vancouver's Horseshoe Bay Ferry terminal, it was a different story. I showed up 20 minutes before departure time to find the gate open and I could walk right on. Usually, boarding would start after the listed departure time 😆.
Not only were we very on schedule, we lucked out with a beautiful sunrise as the ferry set off on its 45 minute voyage. As the sun rose, mountain peaks lit up in its warmth. As it rose higher, it revealed low-laying clouds hugging the mountains and floating just above the water. Better than describing it, check out these pics:

My Favourite Shot from the Voyage
No matter how many times I take this ferry, I am in awe of the view and snap a bunch of pics. That's why for this trip, experiencing sunrise gave me the opportunity to capture a different view.

A mother and her child walking in the golden light as the sun rises over the mountains. An ambient glow emanating across the sky casts out over the water. This photo captures how peaceful the morning air felt, and the wonderful strangeness of this not being a normal trip.
The Water's Serenity
The water also looked so pretty! The wake from the ferry had a luminous glow from the clouds and the morning sun. I was a walk-on passenger, but my sister brought her car across to drive us to the house viewings and to check out Gibsons a bit. As we went down to the car bay, we were gobsmacked by the view we were met with out the bay window.

End of the Sailing
As our short voyage came to a close, the sun was a bit higher in the sky and was illuminating the landscape with a more direct light—that initial softness had faded. The trees became quite vibrant, and all the houses along the water basked in the early Autumn sun. Mount Elphinstone loomed in the background, clouds casting shadows across it.

New Phone, Who Dis?
I recently got the iPhone 17 Pro Max (in orange of course!) after being a lifelong Android user. There are some tradeoffs with moving between operating systems, but one of my interests in getting an iPhone was getting access to some awesome cameras! This trip gave me the opportunity to get some great shots to test out the lenses, and I also shot some video as well. I'll be working on making Reels and Shorts to post with the footage shot. you can follow the Sights Set Elsewhere Instagram here and the YouTube Channel here if you are interested in checking out the content I will be producing in the near future!
